I could be wrong, but I believe the 12XXX ports are if you want to manually switch using the hub worker feature, and 17XXX is the autoswitch that takes all the complication out of it.
I've just started trying the auto-switch for Ethash only and set miner to port 12023, should it be port 17020 ?

are you mining on ethereum only port or on 17020 for most profitable ETHash coin?
0.2 ETH after two days of mining (~400 MH). Nice.

I thought it was "europe.equihash-hub.miningpoolhub.com:12023" for Ethash switching.I have moved my rigs to this pool (ETH). Will check it.

I've just watched my miner switch and looking on MPH there was some Expanse as well as my original Ethereum, so looks like the switching works.
Having a bit of a think about it and I think port 12023 is for auto-switching between Ethash algorithm coins and port 17xxx is for switching between different algorithm coins.
