I'm not sure what 7950s you're looking at, but I've never seen a 7950 go for $900.
You're right, no 7950 goes for $900, but 3 do.
I just built a rig with 3 of these same cards, and it cost me $1,200. I probably bought a few things I didn't need, but it was my first. The next one will cost me much less.
