What is needed in Bitcoin truly Peer-to-Peer is the ability to automatically determine the average value. The comparison would need to be in something like gold because dollars may not survive the next few years. With the value determined automatically then local trading would be much easier since the value would be easily determined. It would also tend to stabilize the currency.
