I have stopped mining over a year ago.  It was worth it for me at the time because I would only mine coins that were new when the difficulty was low.  I also held onto them until the price was right instead of just dumping them immediately when they hit the exchanges.  Sometimes you hit a diamond and your coins are worth a lot of money.  Sometimes you end up with junk coins that aren't even listed on any exchanges.
