Today, blockchain technology has developed dramatically and new projects have many benefits that don't have bitcoin blockchain (scalability, smart contracts, small or no commissions, instant transactions, adaptive consensus algorithms, etc). Internet became popular in the end of 80th  but the most successful companies were created in the middle of the 90th. So, maybe altcoins right now have the most promising investing potential. However, you should be very wise to find diamonds among many useless projects.
