He monitored the chain and contributed just enough hash to make sure the EDAs do not make the difficulty too low and prevent the profit seeking and unfaithful miners from swooping in like vultures and rend out every coin they can, just so they can dump and move on. Now the magical mystery miner is contributing just enough hash to keep the blocks coming at about once every 10 minutes or so. The dynamics of this network really sucks so far. Better hope the Bitcoin cash community can come up with a better way.
