Unfortunately no, that is a result of miners pool swapping. The fork aims to remedy this.
Sorry, what is pool swapping? I just started mining and don't want to accidentally do this thing. Should I wait untill after the fork to resume mining?

It is essentially where a group with a large amount of hashing power targets coins when they are at low difficulty and mines them quickly, then moves on to another coin to do the same thing. This leaves the normal 24/7 miners of the coin with much higher difficulty blocks to solve causing blockchain stall (which is what happened to us).
