do you have any idea what the "big" ICOs are doing for their advertisement?
Doing a good whitepaper, powerful support for their project and focusing on it. Extensive marketing, ads is what they do to promote their ICO.
Because for me it seems like that they are not simply doing some ads and getting millions in sales.
Ads are their main way to get millions of investment/sales. And they've got a lot of channel to advertisement, not only here in forum but also in news articles and blogs so they've got a wide range of viewers and investors. I've seen a project that did advertised with yahoomail.
For me it seems that are having targeted advertisements for big investors .
All investors are their target and if they have a promising project, big investors will just follow them.
