I got into cryptocurrencies when I bought altcoin trading bot. I didn't know at all what are altcoins about but daily profits made by the bot looked great. After a few weeks of bot trading, I realized the bot makes such high daily percentages because altcoin markets performed even stronger. I became to study altcoin markets the same way I had studied forex markets years before.
Nowadays, I am kind of swing trader, holding positions for 5 - 10 business days. I call it riding the waves
From my point of view, I could make even better results holding coins during explosion phases (especially low and mid cap coins) and investing in large cap coins for longer periods of time (month or two). I am now carrying out a small research on market potential for these longer timeframes.
