Yurock, after coming across this thread again after 2 months, I think I agree with all your points.

I think that's the way the bitcoin network is going to evolve.

So I would also say that lifting the 1 Mbyte limit is not really needed, because sooner or later anyway the "small" bitcoin traffic (and also retailer payments where we do not want to wait till the next confirmation at the checkpoint) will move to online wallet services.
