The Windows wallet does not work, you won't be able to sync the current chain. Linux is required at this point. If you don't know it, it is easy (and imo important) to learn. Ubuntu 16.04 is advised. Read back through the recent pages of this thread to find some answers and instructions. A lot of people use vps, a lot of people run their own machines. There are detailed instructions sufficient to get you started near the top of this very page, you may begin there if you would like.

Tonight I finished setting up an 8x masternode system... I was able to do it with only 8 GB of RAM + 4 GB swap. About 80% of the RAM is used on average and about 50% of the swap space is used on average, leaving just about enough wriggle-room in the system to not drive me crazy with the slows. It's running on a server board with high RAM capacity, so I'm looking to add more memory sticks here in the future and continue on. I have learned a good amount along the way... fun stuff this 8bit. Next I'll be automating the startup process so that each masternode starts on its own at login.
