Depends on what you want to do with it. For trading I would suggest checking the top 10 coins in https://coinmarketcap.com/. Look for the ones trading in high volume for the last 24 hrs.
For long investment hold, you can't go wrong with bitcoin and ETH. ICO's use ETH  and bitcoin... is bitcoin.
