Yeah, I believe that the Microsoft company is working on this exact feature you speak of, they call it holoportation. V.R (virtual reality) & A.R (augmented reality) reality will be the future interface for mankind, that will bridge the gap between the virtual constructs we create, and or actual reality. Reminds me of this movie, Ghost In The Shell.

Microsoft's research division is working on it, yes...but microsoft priority is making sure their operating system ends up on future devices...they have already stated they want partners to take the technology and build on it...why? so if you use there tech you use their operating system...its mutual beneficial for them. same reason why any company releases an sdk...
