There are many altcoins which are going to die soon because of lack in support from dev. and community and you can't use your barehands to count them all (including shitcoins). However, in terms of promosing coin, eth is the number one since most of ico contracts were supportrd by ethereum.
Yeah you know there are hundreds more altcoins in the market and there are altcoins that will die for various reasons and there are altcoins that will keep coming. if you want to invest in cryptocurrency then my advice is you can invest in a trusted coin like bitcoin, dash, etherum, etc. but if you want to look for a challenge to get bigger profits you can try to buy a potential ICO
