I think some coins have already been lost, because people thought there wallets were empty and deleted them, but they weren't in reallity...
I agree that's likely to have occurred.
I've kept all mine because I can't be sure if any of the addresses have been given out, so my empty wallets might receive a random payment some day. I'll check my old 'empty' wallets twice a year at least
