Hashrates are averaged over 25 minutes. So if you have no shares (or only a few) It will show 0 kb/s. If you see unpaid shares, that means your shares are being accepted by the server.

left it running over night - generated a whole load of shares but no hashrate shown
It should be fixed now. I threw a few Kh/s to your account for a bit, and your hashrate is now showing up.
