As per Vitalik Buterin said during TechCrunch Disrupt 2017: "The technology of block chain will be able to catch up and replace the Visa payment network soon".
I'm not sure how soon, but it looks rather realistic in close future. What do you think?

reaching that capacity alone is not enough. yes we can right now create a centralized huge server (master node) that holds a gigantic blockchain and handle a large number of daily transactions but that is going to be useless because it is not decentralized. and that is what we are aiming for.
