Friend of mine has been setting up a rig... One of his GPUs started to emit a burning smell right off the bat. Probably riser related. Can a faulty riser actually physically damage a GPU? I suppose it could if it's shorting it somehow. Would EVGA accept an rma for this type of damage?

Yes riser is possible, or bad plugging.
EVGA will accept it without any problem.
just tell them it started to smell burnt as soon as you powered it up.
don't mention mining don't mention risers..  it is a case of less is more.
i.e. do not volunteer  extra info.

I plugged it into the pc I  powered it up and it smells burnt is enough info.

@storx - how do you apply the glue from a glue gun - i have been contemplating getting one  so that the risers and slots don't move about - I usually end up coiling the USB cable to tighten the contact but this I think will make matters worse. Any good bran - glue gun and glue cartridge?

@philip - anxiously waiting for the mobo to arrive in your good hands.

yeah me too but  I did get to work on the you tube channel

This you tube channel will show how to have a garage mine.  I use 1x 30 amp 240 volt circuit connected to a 24/amp pdu
