This fork is coming to be a place for a second coin that is generated from bitcoin.
You will only have this new forked coin if the wallet you are using is supporting the new coin, but if it's not supporting, then there is nothing coming out as a free money.
I think every wallet for which you own the private key, is fine and you will be able to transfer Bitcoin Gold coins to an exchange.what is happening in this fork thing they are all talkin about. sorry im out of town for a while thats why im not updated 
Do you know about the fork last August? I believe there is another in this month, October. And it will happen 10 days from now. The last time was BCC or bitcoin cash and right now the forked bitcoin will be named as BTG or bitcoin gold. Well if I were you, I will get the opportunity on having free money. You can also send all your bitcoins to an exchange that announced that they will support trading Bitcoin Gold. They will probably freeze the website for few minutes or hours during the fork (October 25) and on November 1st you will have equal amount of BTC and BTG. Such exchange is Bitfinex and several other will support BTG, but so far I heard only for Bitfinex.
