Ok, this is what I do to avoid such situation. I used 2 wallet,1 for cold storage and the other is for the bitcoin I may or want to spend. So, I use coinbase exchange wallet for that due to their low transaction fee and their transaction latest confirmation time is 30mins.
You can try sometime but it not advisable to keep your coin on exchange though.
