Just because the partnership with Golden Smophy isn't happening now doesn't mean anything. The project will grow on its own when further updates happen, If people want to dump because the marketing isn't happening then go ahead, it won't change development or success of Elastic in the long run. The best marketing is a finished product, and it will happen in time! Talking about the project dying because of this is way too dramatic..

The best marketing IS marketing. I liked this model. 1.) Create or identify a need. 2.) Inform on how to fill that need 3.) Provide positives of use 4.) Inform what happens when you don't act soon 5.) call to action. Regardless, its already having positive effect.
I don't see Golden Smophy saying they aren't advertising. Anyone can do this (including you community) Devs don't need to be affiliated for it to be successful.
