Yes,  it gives order and awakes conscience.  It avoids and teachers people that there was someone out there looking and guiding us.  That in goodness there is a prize. That there was karma and being good gives pleasure and happiness to the creator.  There may be difference in the choice of religion but one thing will always be the same,  that there is a God that guides us to becoming a better person.
