Spent some time last year building an air economized rig instead of the standard air conditioned setup.

I first started with the idea to move the bitcoin miners outside to remove all of the heat and noise from my house, but that ended up not being so practical due to weather and risk of having things stolen. So i built a box with two 6" diameter air intakes and two 4" diameter exhausts from a used cabinet i found on craigslist. There are two FRAM air filters on the intakes to remove w/e crap gets in there. So far havn't been any real issues with particles or humidity. Temperatures have been getting shitty in the hot weather (80+ deg f), but in the past have been really good. If I were to do it over again I would better design the air flow. With 80 deg F intake you need a ton of CFM to keep cards cooled. All of the fans are high quality server fans, they move a ton of air, but use alot of power (3-4x a normal fan, they use .9 to 1.5 amps @ 12v). I remove the exhausts in the winter and just dump the heat into the house.

GPU Mining is about done with so sold them off, going to load it up FPGAs and ASICs.
