I just received my first D3 - I was shocked to see 20GHz average! 
AND very happily surprised to see that I had the option to control the fan speed! (50% works perfectly and is much less noisy than the auto-tune S9!)

is 50 percent safe?
how did you lower fan speed?
D3 miner will stop running when the Temp(PCB) exceeds to 85°C, there will be an error message Fatal Error: Temperature is too high! shown in the bottom of kernel log page.
