DogeCoin may finally update the 2 years old code and have segwit soon — Tai Zen is organizing a professional company to update the code and developing DOGECOIN NOW. DOGECOIN WILL WENT TO $0.86 SOON.

Does actually DOGE need segwit? Transfer speed and tx cost are low already, and there is no bottleneck in the chain as far as I'm aware...

There is no bottleneck yet but isn't it at the same time a function of an overall coin's success? If it's massively adopted DOGE should run into capacity problems like other coins, too. If all of the things are in place and DOGE works smooth all the time it could be a real plus for potential users out there.

I just find it good to question everything.

It should also be noted that DOGE already has 10 times the capacity of bitcoin since the block time is 1 minute as opposed to 10 minutes, meaning it can handle 10 1Mb blocks per minute if needed. That is the equivalent to pre segwit BTC having 10Mb blocks. At 2020 transactions per block, DOGE can currently handle ~120,000 transactions per hour. So DOGE can already handle 9.6x the current transactional volume of bitcoin (with bitcoin running 300,000 per day) without any modification.

Segwit is a buzzword at the minute and will likely increase the price if implemented - however I'm wondering if there is another way to add instant value - as far as I can see Segwit will not offer any significant advantages. DOGE is already awesome!

EDIT: VISA is capable of processing 24,000 transactions per second - if DOGE were to scale up to compete with the worlds largest payment processor, then Segwit may make sense - although I didn't yet do the maths.

EDIT2: Thinking about it - DOGE already has the advantages of SegWit (compared to BTC) without the disadvantages by design.

The problem is that those numbers don't matter. They are ridiculous anyway. Do you know what I mean? When we talk about scale and some coin can deliver 5 time or 10 times BTC, it is still bad. It is not even worth mentioning. We need serious scalability for cryptocurrencies to work. As soon as we are successful we will have problems. Problems are a function of success and that needs to be solved. It is solvable and I am looking forward to the geniuses providing the answers!
