Think like it this way. If you would be the only miner on the pool you would essentially be solo mining. You would use your hash power to try to solve a block. Once (after a long time) a block solution is found the pool's ubiq account (address) is credited 8 coins. The pool's payout system then proceeds to transfer these coins to your account, 8 coins if no fee is taken.

The only difference if there instead of one miner is 100 miners, is that the pool's payout system then has to credit 100 miners. Blocks are found more often but the payout per miner goes down.

It is completely normal for a smaller pool that it sometimes takes longer time to find a new block. During such a bad luck period there is no reward from the block chain to the pool to send out to its miners.
