The fact that they use it to excuse the child abuse (see recent Roy Moore defenses) is why the first two statements are false. Willful ignorance is no longer something that we as a society should tolerate. It is constantly used to excuse despicable things and the only "benefit" that people can cite is that religion makes people feel better. You know what else made children feel better? Security blankets, but we tell them to grow the fuck up and mock any adult that would dare to bring a security blanket to work, why don't we do the same with these dangerous fairytales?
