There seems not much potential in other altcoins when compared to bitcoin but still there are some cryptocurrency like ETH which are widely used and sometimes more than BTC for example in south Africa but cannot be used to make profits but a small time earning and bitcoin remains the king of cryptocurrency.
Yes we all know that according to the current statistics bitcoins are the best among all other available options because their market price is highest at present.
But as far as investment and trading is concerned other valuable coins such as ethereum could also be used to earn desirable profits as it is more widely used than the legacy currency in some countries of the world. This is actually important for keeping a balance in the world of cryptocurrency.
