I'm not sure. But if you are interested in the NEO project, you should probably just buy NEO instead of gas. Gas will always be seen as a lesser part of the NEO economy than the actual NEO tokens, even though it is still a big part of the system.

Plus if i understand correctly(i'm not a big NEO fan so i could be mistaken), you get gas tokens if you hold NEO, sort of like interest.

Takes 2000 odd days (that's 7 yrs!) to earn 1 GAS, if I am not mistaken

How did you calculate this? The amount of GAS you can generate is linked to the amount of NEO you hold. So if you hold a sizeable portion of NEO, you will generate a sizeable amount of GAS.
