I'm not sure. But if you are interested in the NEO project, you should probably just buy NEO instead of gas. Gas will always be seen as a lesser part of the NEO economy than the actual NEO tokens, even though it is still a big part of the system.

Plus if i understand correctly(i'm not a big NEO fan so i could be mistaken), you get gas tokens if you hold NEO, sort of like interest.

Takes 2000 odd days (that's 7 yrs!) to earn 1 GAS, if I am not mistaken

This must be wrong. I didn't calculate this, but one of my friends is doing this and he's getting plenty amount of GAS. Plus, NEO price goes up very nicely and making profits for the holding it.
