I think its the same as now although there are more people and services that accepts bitcoins today.
Nope, I dont see anything that seems to be the same as of today speed of transaction compared to that of 2011, because back then, I remember that Bitcoin arrives within seconds to the receivers wallet than it does now.
I was still a newbie as of then, and all the Bitcoins I sent and received were handled instantly (Im not sure of confirmation, all I know is that it has a faster speed) this time transaction on high priority takes up to 10 or 15 minutes, and low priority is forever and ever.
