Testnet is currently active with the new XCITE client. You can join in and track it's progress on this thread:

It is currently on Block 85/100 the test will end at Block 100, however keep an eye on the testnet section to keep up to date on the progress of the overall testnet and join in if you wish.

Plenty more tests to come very soon, we are starting small and slowly scaling up and adding new things constantly.
