When i replace the wallet.dat file of 2015 and try to re-open my wallet i get a pop up message "runaway exception...." And the wallet wont open.
When i replace the wallet.dat file of 2014 and try to re-open my wallet first its says loading block index.... and then it says rescanning. But it is rescanning for 1 hour now.
Am i screwed or what?
Unfortunately, this is beyond my expertise - but as long as you have the original 'wallet.dat's with your funds then you shouldn't have lost anything; there should be some way to recover them. Hopefully someone who understands this side of things will be along to help.
That said, I imagine it would take it quite a while to rescan the whole blockchain looking for transactions relating to that wallet, though. I'm not sure how the process works.
If it hasn't sorted itself after rescanning then I imagine the safest method would be to remove the blockchain files, make sure the wallet.dat you want to recover is in the folder and then resync from the beginning. I did this last week and a full resync took just under three days.
As long as you don't delete or break your original wallet.dats, you should be able to keep on messing about with copies until you recover your coins.
Alright thanks for your help. I have stopped the resync. And i am going to resync it completely using my original wallet.dat. Hopefully it works. I will let you know.
