I do believe ETH has the potential to do it.
From a first approach, if never heard about crypto, and just trying to compare both of them, you would put your money on ETH.
I started a few months ago, and after reading a bit about both, ETH is the real deal.
But who knows, so far BTC just kept on growing and growing.

By November 2016, Everyone was talking about Ethereum and Ripple surpassing bitcoin. Although most of them have seen some significant growth over time but there's no one getting the top spot anytime soon.
