For example, on Satoshi Dice, you always get something back, no matter how small, just enough to know that your bet was unsuccessful and here is some small change back. If I bet 0.01 on a number on Satoshi Dice, I would get back 0.0000546 if I lose, which is insignificant, but it's proof the transaction went through. On Jackpot Dice, many transaction just disappear, as if they never happened, which tells me something is wrong.
JDTH: Yes, it seems like Satoshi Dice stands out as being pretty legit, though in the end they usually win it all. I don't care if they are making a profit, good for them, as long as they provide a good and legit service, they deserve to profit, it's like any other business.
