I hear from many sources that btc is used for trading much more than it is for goods and services; doesn't that make it an asset ??

It is an asset, for sure. And yes, it is not bad thing
It is really inconvinient to pay with bitcoin nowadays. And, I bet, It will not be better in future. Other coins could serve better.
