If you plan on day trading or swing trading is it better to be using Bitcoin or Ethereum ?

I've noticed more volume on Bitcoin altcoins than Ethereum does this matter ?

I am not sure which one to buy as many here have said price of BTC is skyup compared to Eth. So which one will be ideal for trading during the day or weekly using Eth or BTC for altcoins ?
