If you are ready to invest $1000 short term, I think you may want to be cautious with so many of these cryptocurrencies at high prices. Bitcoin has made huge gains and you would be buying near an all time high. Most of the other big altcoins are also very expensive right now although they have dropped some the last couple of days. I am hesitant to buy at or near an all time high so my suggestion is to wait for some kind of correction in one of the top 10 coins and invest at that point.
