Aloha!!

Is it possible for two different blockchains to communicate between each other through Smart Contracts? I have come across this concept of Oracles whoch exists in smart contracts. But I feel it difficult to conceptualize how it exactly woks.

Could anyone provide an insight? Please correct me if what explained is wrong..
