The first answer is right. It's an environment lottery.

You may be lucky to be born in a family that knows how to treat money properly and just learn those skills from childhood.

You may be not born in a family with good financial skills but you may come across right people who can teach you these.

Or come across right books and right videos and use your knowledge to search for right opportunities to climb the financial ladder (my case).

Or you may be unlucky for all of the above.

The point is - your brain is inclined to attribute everything you succeeded at to your hard work and put a large discount on this environmental luck factor. So don't get big headed. If you worked your way from the bottom to be successful  then nothing will bring you so much long term pleasure as sending that elevator back down.
