It's because there is a whole finance sector which is concerned with banking and finance in accordance with Islam. Check out https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Islamic_banking_and_finance . I personally think there is only one type of banking and Islamic banking is just another name for the same thing, but it's not entirely surprsing that the question arises whether bitcoin is halal or not.
