I put in a transaction on December 6th, and it's still stuck!! I'm completely new to the whole bitcoin/blockchain space but I thought the whole point of the system was to have faster and more secure transactions?

i pushed it to antpool, but chances of it being picked up are small tbh... as a receiver, you can attempt a CPFP, but you'll have to pay the fee for the complete (stuck) parent transaction.. Since it's a 45 kb tx, that fee will be huge...
A different (political) option would be to force the sender to clean up their act and fix their problem
