Yes it was and still is. That wallet dates back to the very early days. On one hand, there was no light option for desktop wallets
(so no going against the default). On the other, if I had the choice I would've run it full anyway (for the sake of the network).It's the same argument people have for using Bitcoin Core wallet. - slow, SSD, takes lots of space, etc.
