You don't transact with gold at the supermarket. But Litecoin is much faster and cheaper than Bitcoin and therefore a more day-to-day currency. I can totally see it gaining more traction as day-to-day cryptocurrency spending becomes mainstream. Many people use it already to send funds between exchanges. MUCH cheaper and faster than Bitcoin.
With that said, it has a few competitors like Bitcoin Cash. It's going to be a race to see which one wins.
