3 days. 3 days of trying EVERYTHING listed here including much voodoo.
At the very end of it all there was hair dryer hanging from a rope to give just enough warmth to the logic board incase the outside 55 degree (f) temps were causing issues.
That's when I did get it running ....so I can't rule it out, but I don't think it was the key factor.
S9, Bitmain 3++ 240 v powersupply, came in 3 days ago in what appears to be a dead on arrival (DOA) state.
Symptoms were:
"Hardware Version" is blank, "BMminer Version" is blank under general.
"Miner Status" is blank, or does not fill out.
"bminer not found.... " is listed in the Kernel log.
S9 appears to be running normally from looking at the unit, green light, after 10 min. 1 red light per board. (1 steady red = good, they blink when they start that's normal.)
Notice though that the fan is speeding up and slowing down in a slow breathing cycle every few minutes. Assume that's normal, though now its changed to a constant that its working.
Tried flashing to previous firmware, flash, reset, press the button the thing, reset etc.
I learned that the boot time, or time between trying anyone of these things was a few hours.
For me, I waited 4 hours of it running before trying a new configuration as it seems like it takes a long time to fully get going and hitting refresh after its been running for a while seemed common before getting a result.
Tried connecting just 1 hash board at a time. Got it to 'stand up' (show hardware version, miner status) with the 1 middle board. odd in hindsight.
Tried connecting 2 and its a brick again. (each time turning it off and on, waiting an hour or two before giving up and resetting it, etc.)
Hooked up 2 Antminer S9 power supplies, JUST IN CASE both of them were too weak somehow. nothing. ( I had an extra brought as backup )
Sacrificed a goat.
Someone here noted the ethernet cable switch fixing it, or check the router that got me to thinking some kind of bad internet connection would do this?
Thought I was chasing down a hardware issue, with the blank hardware version....
Swapped cable, rebooted router.... nothing.
Started messing with the address I was mining to.... that appeared to do it.
Nice hash happens to be back up... and soon as I pointed all 3 address's at nicehash it started going. (after restarting and about 20 min.)
So Maybe there is something about the antminer default addresses that is messing causing the machine to not act right?
Or, maybe it was the damn hair dryer.
