Looks like you don't understand real risks of increasing block size. If hard drive is the only problem, i would support block size up to 16MB by now

Have you consider amount of bandwitch needed to broadcast transaction/block? Have you consider processing power required to verify each transaction/block before it's broadcasted if it's valid? Have you consider risks of more orphan rates/slower propagation speeds?
I'm not against increasing block size, but without make sure most full nodes are able to continue run smoothly after block size increase, it's very risky.
