The actual motive is to find out whether they're trustworthy or not.
If you have a toothache you go to a dentist. You don't go to a random person that pretends he can cure you but you go to the one you trust.
My point is that if I'm investing money into something/someone, I'd like to be sure I'm dealing with a professional.
