I'm looking for suggestions on small cap coins that are intended to be used as currency or have a unique offering. Small cap being under $5m to $100m. Does anyone have a few hidden gems that they would like to share?

One coin that hits bulls-eye for your criteria is Spectrecoin.  It has a current m-cap between $30-40 million.  It aspires to become the go-to privacy coin for small remittances - a Hawala-like, 100% private and anonymous, peer-to-peer digital cash.  Development is well under way; current features include a sleek and easy to use wallet with native Tor integration (meaning, it operates at all times within the Tor network - no entry or exit nodes), OBFS4 obfuscation protocol which enables use in Tor-blocked countries, ring signatures for transactional anonymity, ultrafast 60-second transaction speeds, encrypted passphrase, and low power staking which yields 5% per year in staking rewards to users who keep their wallets open for staking.  Upcoming features include default stealth addresses (goodbye rich list!), stealth staking (first ever in crypto history), stealth transaction facility with exchanges, an advanced first-of-its-kind ring signature protocol (Ghost Protocol), and the Spectre Cash small remittance Android app for peer-to-peer anonymous transactions.

Spectrecoin has some very dynamic and positive developments unfolding behind the scenes right now.  Look for XSPEC's newly revamped website, in the next week or two.  In the meantime, check out the wiki page, and come say hi to our vibrant community on slack:
