i think keeping them in mew will be enough, you just need to move them out of exchanges, they will be seen on snapshot

yes i think so too if you just leave them on my ether wallet you should be safe to recieve the new tokens

Actually, if you read this you'll see that it's not enough just to keep HAT tokens in MyEtherWallet. Everyone will have to send old HAT tokens to the new contract address in order to receive new tokens. It will cost a little gas, but in that way the dev team will assure that old HAT tokens are remove from the circulation and that everyone have time to do the swap (swap function will be available during the whole month of January 2018).
