Verge is 'secure' (as almost every cryptocurrency in the top 30 at the moment) and anonymous.
SSL (which by the way is called TLS now) [1] is neither required for the security- nor for the anonymity-element.
The only possible attack (without usig TLS) would be that an attacker could rig the the TX history, .. .
This requires the attacker to sit inbetween you and the node you are connectig to (Man-in-the-Middle[2]).
without SSL it works for me too. Is that a problem? can i do something wrong when i connect without SSL??

You don't have to connect via SSL (new name: TLS).
